Vietnam reinforces role as regional electronics manufacturing hub
VOV.VN - Vietnam is reinforcing its position as a key electronics manufacturing hub in the region, as Korean conglomerates such as LG ramp up investment and large-scale recruitment to meet rising global demand.
According to reports from Seoul, companies under LG Group are accelerating production expansion in Vietnam, particularly in high-tech sectors, alongside plans to significantly increase their workforce. Local entities of LG Innotek and LG Display have proposed that authorities in Hai Phong support workforce supply to meet expansion needs.
The latest investment wave is expected to further consolidate Vietnam’s role in global supply chains, while creating tens of thousands of jobs and promoting technology transfer over the medium and long term.
Park Hong Geun, director of LG Innotek Vietnam, confirmed that the V3 factory, producing camera modules for smartphones, optical solutions for AR/VR devices, and smart vehicles, has officially begun operations. To meet new orders, particularly for next-generation camera modules, the company plans to hire approximately 2,600 additional workers soon.
To attract and retain talent, LG Innotek is also building dormitories and expanding employee benefits, reflecting the growing competition for skilled labour in major manufacturing hubs.
Meanwhile, LG Display Vietnam announced plans to recruit up to 5,251 personnel by June to support production expansion at the Trang Due 3 Industrial Park and meet global order demand. Experts predict that hiring needs may continue rising sharply as expansion projects progress, potentially requiring thousands more workers.
Previously, LG Electronics, LG Display, and LG Innotek representatives collaborated with the Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board to request support in human resources for production expansion and new product development.
In response, local authorities are implementing measures to address labour shortages, including vocational training programs, attracting workers from other provinces, and organising large-scale job fairs.
Efforts are also underway to strengthen cooperation between businesses and educational institutions to develop a skilled workforce aligned with industry needs.
Experts say LG’s expansion reflects not only rising market demand but also a broader shift in global supply chains, as technology firms diversify production locations to mitigate risks amid geopolitical uncertainties and fluctuating costs.
