Vietnam ranks second globally in crypto ownership rate

VOV.VN - The country ranks second in the world in terms of the ratio of its population that owns cryptocurrency, according to data collected by cryptocurrency payment company Triple-A.

According to the data, about 21.2% of the country’s population owns crypto.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) topped the list with 34.4%, followed by the United States with 15.6%, Iran with 13.5%, the Philippines with 13.4%, and Brazil with 12%.

Tripple-A revealed that the UAE's top spot is due to its government looking favourably on crypto currencies, with the financial services regulator FSRA-ADGM issuing guidelines and regulations on how crypto can be traded.

According to information provided by the Crypto Council for Innovation, cryptocurrency holdings in Vietnam are untaxed, therefore making them an attractive asset.

Furthermore, a survey conducted by Coin98 Insights in December, 2023, shows that the average age of Vietnamese cryptocurrency owners is between 26 and 36, thereby accounting for 47.1% of all trades, while those aged 18 to 25 accounted for 37.9% of the overall figure.

Data compiled by blockchain research company Chainalysis, which was released in March, revealed that crypto users in the nation ranked third in the world in terms of profits from trading in 2023, with a total value of US$1.18 billion.
