Vietnam ranks fourth in world instant noodle consumption

VOV.VN - The country is the world's fourth-largest consumer of instant noodles, purchasing roughly 8.1 billion packets throughout 2023, according to the latest report outlined by the World Instant Noodles Association (WINA).

The report highlights that Vietnamese instant noodle consumption last year decreased slightly by 1% compared to 2022, with the country consuming 8.48 billion packages of instant noodles in 2022.

Last year witnessed China lead the way as the world's largest consumer of instant noodles with 42.21 billion packages, followed by Indonesia with 14.54 billion packages.

The other markets featuring among the top five include India and Japan who consumed 8.68 billion and 5.84 billion packages, respectively.

Statistics compiled by the WINA indicate that the world’s total instant noodle consumption showed signs of recovery in 2022 and 2023 with 121.2 billion and 120.2 billion packages being sold, respectively.

The figures recorded in 2020 and 2021 stood at only 116.56 and 118.18 billion packages, respectively, largely due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The WINA attributed this recovery to the wider range of products available for customers to choose from, with the instant noodle market showing a rebound, albeit quite slowly. This can be seen as a common trend in the world market as packaged noodle consumption is falling in general.
