Vietnam ranks among top five export markets for Washington apples
VOV.VN - Vietnam has emerged as one of the top five export markets for Washington apples, reflecting the growing demand for imported fruit in the Southeast Asian country, according to the Washington Apple Commission (WAC).
Washington State is the largest apple-producing region in the United States, accounting for about 68% of the country’s total apple production. With its strong production capacity and established export networks, Washington apples are now shipped to more than 30 international markets worldwide.
According to the Washington Apple Commission, apple shipments from Washington State to Vietnam have increased significantly over the past two decades.
“Vietnam is a very important market for us. It is one of the top five export markets for Washington apples by volume,” said Lindsey Huber, International Marketing Manager at the Washington Apple Commission.
Export volumes have grown rapidly, rising from about 100 containers in 2004 to roughly 2,000 containers in 2024, highlighting Vietnam’s expanding role in the global apple trade.
Industry representatives expect Vietnam to remain a key destination for Washington apples in the coming years, particularly as the industry continues promoting premium varieties such as Cosmic Crisp, known for its crisp texture, sweetness and long shelf life.
The strong growth in Washington apple exports also reflects a broader trend of rising fruit imports in Vietnam. According to customs statistics, Vietnam’s fruit import value exceeded US$3 billion in 2025, with the United States becoming one of the fastest-growing suppliers.
Popular imported fruits from the US market include apples, cherries, grapes and oranges, all of which have seen increasing demand among Vietnamese consumers.
With rising purchasing power and growing consumer interest in high-quality imported produce, Vietnam is expected to be a strategic market for US agricultural exports, including Washington apples.
