Vietnam promotes hot spring and thalassotherapy tourism models
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Ambassador to Algeria Vu Duy Long shared Vietnam’s experience in tourism development, with a focus on hot spring and thalassotherapy models, at a forum on hot spring and thalassotherapy tourism held in Guelma, Algeria, on October 26.
Addressing experts, investors, hot spring facility representatives, medical doctors, local officials, and diplomats, Ambassador Vu Duy Long said that Vietnam has planned thermal springs and coastal areas into integrated resort-wellness-hotel-real estate complexes, turning natural hot springs into year-round attractions to eliminate seasonality in tourism. I
n addition, the country has proactively partnered with world-leading partners, notably Japan on closed-loop mineral filtration technology and Onsen standards, as well as European experts in physiotherapy and rehabilitation management. Alongside hot springs, it has developed a comprehensive product chain, ranging from heritage tourism (Ha Long Bay, Phong Nha Caves) and island tourism (Phu Quoc, Nha Trang) to river eco-tourism and culinary culture, helping extend tourist stays and increase spending.
Ambassador Long emphasized that thanks to a sound resource upgrading strategy, Vietnam’s tourism sector has achieved concrete results, generating over US15 million to US$25 million each while creating a breakthrough boost for resort real estate.
On this occasion, the ambassador respectfully invited representatives from Algeria's Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts, associations, and enterprises to visit Vietnam for field surveys and direct experiences of hot spring Onsen and thalassotherapy models. He also expressed readiness to act as a bridge connecting experts, investors, and travel enterprises of the two countries, and to provide maximum visa support for Algerian delegations, businesses, and tour groups.
During the morning session of the first working day, forum delegates watched a documentary on thermal tourism exploitation and development in Algeria, and attended multiple discussion sessions on topics such as modernizing thermal hot spring resorts to international standards, promoting investment and innovation in thermal tourism, and simplifying administrative procedures for businesses to facilitate projects combining natural therapy, entertainment, and leisure.
At the forum, Algerian Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts Houria Meddahi underscored the importance of this type of tourism in diversifying the national economy, creating jobs, and attracting investment. She highlighted organizing the forum as an important step to consolidate the position of thermal tourism in the national tourism landscape and promote Algeria’s rich natural resources.
The goal of the forum is to turn these resources into a lever for economic diversification, job creation, and investment attraction. According to the minister, Algeria possesses enormous natural and thermal potential, featuring 282 hot springs distributed across 40 provinces.
Delegates attending the forum also discussed and shared experiences and ideas on human resource training and professional development for staff working at hot spring facilities, as well as marketing and promoting this strategically significant type of tourism in both the Algerian and international markets.
