Vietnam moves to protect ST24 and ST25 rice trademarks in US

VOV.VN - Along with the Australian market, Ho Quang Cua, dubbed the “father” of ST25 rice, has moved to hire a lawyer in the United States in order to formally file an application for the registration of trademark protection for ST25 rice in the US.

Cua said on May 4 that he has signed a mandate for a law firm in the US to officially file for registration of protection of ST25 rice, adding that the firm is in the process of urgently working in an effort to deal with the case.

In relation to an enterprise in the Australian market registering protection for ST24 and ST25 rice trademarks, Cua stated that the Vietnamese Trade Office in Australia has responded to the matter in both a rapid and effective manner.

Most notably, registering with the Australian Intellectual Property Office (IP Australia) serves to protect ST24 and ST25 rice in Australia.

This comes after firm T&L Global Foods Supply had previously sent documents and photos to Intellectual Property Office (IP Australia) to clarify that the ST24 and ST25 rice varieties were developed by Cua along with a team of Vietnamese scientists, adding that they have already been granted patents in the Vietnamese market.

They have therefore requested that IP Australia consider the matter and try to avoid possible disputes that could potential affect ST24 and ST25 rice exports from the nation to Australia.

Cua went on to reveal that the Vietnamese Trade Office in Australia has contacted him in order to discuss solutions in order to handle the case, while also praising the agency’s responsibility and enthusiastic support for his cause.

Furthermore, the practical and timely support provided by Vietnamese Trade Office in Australia, especially from Nguyen Phu Hoa, chief of the Vietnamese Trade Office in Australia, has helped Cua to boost his energy in terms of continuing with the timely process.

He therefore emphasised that through the case, he and his team will be able to swiftly register protection for the ST24 and ST25 rice trademarks.
