Vietnam makes strongest-ever showing at Germany’s leading fruit fair
VOV.VN - The has made its largest-ever presence at Fruit Logistica, the world’s largest fruit and vegetable trade fair, which opened in Berlin on February 5.
The Vietnam Fruits and Vegetables Association (Vinafruit) set up ten booths at the three-day event, showcasing key exports such as mangoes, longans, dragon fruits, durians, jackfruits, coconuts, passion fruits, and rambutans. This marks Vietnam’s fifth participation in the event.
Vinafruit General Secretary Dang Phuc Nguyen stated that Fruit Logistica provides a valuable platform for Vietnamese businesses to seek new partners and strengthen ties with European buyers, thereby boosting exports to this highly demanding market under the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement while diversifying global market access. Additionally, the event exposes participants to advanced technologies in product preservation and packaging.
Vietnamese agricultural counsellor to the EU Tran Van Cong highlighted Europe as an open market with strong demand for plant-based products, including fruits and vegetables, giving Vietnam a competitive edge. Unlike many other markets, Europe’s post-inspection policies allow fruit imports without requiring planting area registration, packaging codes, or irradiation.
However, he emphasized that Vietnamese producers must strictly comply with the EU’s stringent production standards.
Huynh Thanh Truc, Director of Golden Bee Import-Export Company, stated that Vietnam’s novel fruits have gained popularity among European consumers, with durians and longans securing a significant market share alongside traditional exports like dragon fruits and passion fruits. However, she pointed out that high logistics costs pose a major challenge to price competitiveness.
In 2023, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports grossed US$7.15 billion, with shipments to the EU accounting for US$242.5 million.
On the sidelines of the fair, Vietnam’s Vina T&T Co., Ltd. and the Netherlands’ Golden Gate Bce B.V. signed a Memorandum of Understanding to distribute Vietnamese fruits, starting with coconuts, grapefruits, longans, and lychees, across the Netherlands and the broader EU market.
With over 2,600 exhibitors from more than 90 countries, Fruit Logistica continues to reaffirm its status as the most influential annual event for the global fruit and vegetable industry. This year’s theme, “Fruitful Connections,” underscores the fair’s emphasis on fostering meaningful partnerships and collaboration across the sector.
Spanning 26 exhibition halls, each dedicated to specific categories such as tropical fruits, organic vegetables, post-harvest technology, and logistics, the event offers a comprehensive showcase of innovations in preservation, processing, and packaging technologies, as well as insights into shifting global distribution channels.
