Vietnam-India trade recovers post-COVID-19
Trade between Vietnam and India in August picked up 12% from July, reaching US$1.02 billion despite the complications from the COVID-19 outbreak, according to the Vietnamese Trade Office in India.
Trade turnover stood at US$6.08 billion between January-August, a year-on-year decline of 24.4%. Vietnam shipped US$3.12 billion worth of goods to India, down 34.2%, while importing US$2.96 billion worth of Indian goods, up 4.9% against the same period last year.
Telephones and components continued to be the biggest earner for Vietnam in the period, bringing in US$827.77 million, a year-on-year decline of 11.7%. Following were computers, electronic products, and components (US$542.39 million, down 32.3%) and machinery and tools (US$243.45 million, down 57.4%).
Major imports from India included steel products (US$832.75 million, up 61.5%), machinery and components (US$210.78 million, down 32.5%), pharmaceutical products (US$172.4 million, up 5.7%), and seafood (US$161.45 million, up 19.3%).
