Vietnam increases petrol and oil imports

VOV.VN - Vietnam imported 7.22 million tonnes of petrol and oil worth US$ 5.88 billion during the opening eight months of the year, representing an increase of 22.2% in volume on-year, according to details given by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

However, this figure represents a decrease of 5.5% in value compared to the same period from last year.

In relation to the statistics, the import volume of diesel surged by 18.5% to reach more than 4 million tonnes and accounting for 55% of the country's imported petroleum of all kinds.

The import volume of petrol soared by 38.4% to 1.48 million tonnes against the same period from last year, accounting for 20% of the country's imported petrol of all types.

August alone saw Vietnam import 1.1 million tonnes worth US$992 million, an increase of 19% compared to the previous month.

Due to the increase in petroleum imports recorded in the initial months of the year, the domestic petroleum supply source has been ensured. Since July, domestic petrol prices have continuously increased in line with the global market.

During the reviewed period, the Republic of Korea made up the country’s largest source of petrol and oil, shipping 2.94 million tonnes, up 24,7%; followed by Singapore with 1.74 million tonnes, up 110.1%; Malaysia with 1.27 million tonnes, up 56%; and China with 629,000 tonnes, up 12.2% on-year.
