Vietnam consults WTO experts on export-related trade risks
VOV.VN - Minister Counsellor Pham Quang Huy, deputy head of Vietnam's Permanent Mission to Geneva, recently held a working session with representatives of the St. Gallen Endowment and attended a seminar on trade risk exposure and country responses to tariff increases.
The seminar gathered a broad range of representatives from WTO member delegations, as well as leading experts in international trade policy, including Simon Evenett, founder of the St. Gallen Endowment, and Professor Richard Baldwin (IMD), a prominent economist in global trade.
Those in attendance were professors and experts from HEC Montreal Business School (Canada), the University of Geneva (Switzerland), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), and Trade Data Monitor. The event provided participants with practical data and insights to help WTO members assess export-related risks amid rising US tariffs. It also examined how companies and countries can recover from sudden export market losses and analyzed the trade impacts of increasing tariffs.
On the sidelines of the seminar, the Vietnamese delegation engaged directly with several speakers, including Professor Baldwin, to discuss his recently published book The Great Trade Hack, which explores recent US tariff policy developments.
The delegation also met with Professor Simon Evenett to propose deeper cooperation between the two sides.
Established in 2020, the St. Gallen Endowment is a non-profit organization based in Switzerland that provides trade data and policy advice for developing economies. Its key initiatives include the Global Trade Alert, which monitors trade, sectoral and FDI policies across more than 60 countries; the Digital Policy Alert, which tracks digital regulations related to artificial intelligence, data governance, competition, taxation and content moderation; the C4TP initiative, which supports capacity-building in trade policy; and the NIPO project, which compiles data on industrial policies.
