Vietnam boosts export of quality products to Italian market

VOV.VN - Vietnamese ambassador to Italy Duong Hai Hung on September 14 had a working session with the leadership of Fruitimpresse, an Italian association that represents and protects businesses in the fruit and vegetable industry, in an effort to boost the export of Vietnamese fruits to the market.

Ambassador Hung briefed his hosts on Vietnam’s economic development and the impressive growth of its fruit industry, affirming that Vietnam is a supplier of safe, high-quality, low-carbon agricultural products in the international market.

He expressed hope that both Italian and Vietnamese businesses would increase cooperation in this industry, including facilitating market access for major fresh Vietnamese fruits such as dragon fruit, mangosteen, lychee, passion fruit, avocado, mango and coconut.

These fruits have won Italian consumers’ trust at annual Macfrut international trade fairs over the years, he said.

Fruitimpresse President Marco Salvi welcomed the ambassador’s proposal and said it’s time for the two sides to ramp up such cooperation.

He added that Italy imports a lot of cashew nuts from Vietnam, while Italy is both a major exporter and importer of fruits in the world.

Salvi revealed that in 2022, Italy imported US$4.8 billion worth of vegetables and fruits from many countries, while Vietnam is a potential supplier of these products.

The Fruitimpresse President proposed that in the immediate future, the two sides work out an appropriate framework to promote fruit import-export cooperation with Vietnam.

The Italian side can supply many strong fruits such as kiwi, pear and apple, as well as advanced agricultural machinery to Vietnam, he said.
