Vietnam bolsters ties in quality measurement standards with UAE and Saudi Arabia
VOV.VN - A delegation from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) led by Minister Huynh Thanh Dat held a recent bilateral working session with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) and signed a Technical Cooperation Program with the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO).
This took place within the framework of the official visit of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to the UAE and a working visit to Saudi Arabia.
At the meeting, Deputy Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology of the UAE Omar Al Suwaidi expressed his pleasure at welcoming the Vietnamese delegation, highly appreciated the co-operation between the two sides, and emphasized the need to enhance collaboration activities in the field of Halal based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2023 on quality measurement standards.
Minister Dat hailed the ties and mutual support between the two sides, stressing the importance of increasing technical support for the Halal Certification Center, under the Commission for the Standards, Metrology and Quality of Vietnam (STAMEQ) of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The Vietnamese Minister said that the country desires to promote the exchange of experts between the two, considering this to be an important factor in developing co-operation activities. He therefore encouraged more co-operation opportunities in assessing the conformity of goods before exports in order to meet the requirements of the UAE market.
He expressed his at receiving consensus and comments from Deputy Minister Al Suwaidi to realise these plans in the coming time.
At the end of the meeting, Minister Dat sent an invitation and hoped to welcome the leaders of the UAE MoIAT to visit and work at the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam in the near future.
On the afternoon of October 29, at SASO headquarters, a signing ceremony of the Technical Cooperation Program between STAMEQ and SASO was held solemnly under the witness of Minister Dat.
Talking with Alkasabi, chairman of SASO, Minister Dat highly appreciated the potential for co-operation between the two agencies in the field of quality measurement standards, especially in the field of Halal.
Under the terms of the programme, the two sides plan to work together in areas such as standards and standards training, conformity assessment, legal and industrial metrology, testing and laboratories, calibration, information exchange, mutual recognition of conformity assessment bodies, digital transformation of quality infrastructure, as well as the exchange of expertise and human resources.
Alkasabi also expressed his hope that STAMEQ and SASO will support each other to deepen and make co-operation activities more effective.
Both sides believe that the signing of the agreement on this special occasion will create a foundation for STAMEQ and SASO to carry out practical linkage activities in the coming time, thereby making positive contributions to the friendly relations between Vietnam and Saudi Arabia.
