Vietnam-ASEAN trade surpasses US$60 billion in eight months
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s total trade with ASEAN exceeded US$60 billion in the first eight months of 2025, with imports accounting for US$35 billion and exports reaching US$25.6 billion.

According to the National Statistics Office’s latest socio-economic report, Vietnam’s six largest trading partners- the the United States, China, the European Union, the Republic of Korea, Japan, and ASEAN- together accounted for the bulk of the country’s trade. Exports to these markets totaled US$240 billion, representing 78.7% of Vietnam’s total export turnover.
The United States remained Vietnam’s top export destination, with turnover rising 26.4% year-on-year to US$99.1 billion. Exports to China increased 9.2% to US$42 billion, while shipments to the EU grew 8.1% to US$37 billion. Among regional partners, ASEAN ranked as the fourth-largest export market, with exports up 2.9% on-year to US$25.6 billion. Exports to the Republic of Korea and Japan also surged, rising 11.8% and 9% to US$18.9 billion and US$17.5 billion, respectively.
On the import side, Vietnam spent US$231 billion sourcing goods from these six key markets, accounting for 79.5% of total imports. China remained the leading supplier, with import turnover up 27.1% year-on-year to US$117.9 billion.
Imports from the Republic of Korea increased 5.8% to US$39 billion, while Japan followed with US$16 billion, up 11%. ASEAN ranked third among Vietnam’s import sources, with imports rising 15% to US$35 billion. Imports from the United States and the EU also climbed, by 23.4% and 4.1% to US$12.1 billion and US$11.4 billion, respectively.
