Vietnam, Algeria promote economic cooperation

Vietnamese Ambassador to Algeria Tran Quoc Khanh has recently paid a working visit to Oran Province - the economic hub of western Algeria, as part of efforts to implement the agreements reached during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to the North African country in November last year.

During the visit, Khanh held working sessions with Governor of Oran Brahim Ouchene; Director of the Province’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry Larbi Ahmed; and representatives of a number of local businesses.

At the meetings, the ambassador recalled the long-standing tradition of friendship between the two countries, as well as the significant and forward-looking outcomes of PM Chinh’s visit, which set important orientations for bilateral cooperation in the coming period. He also highlighted Vietnam’s strengths and potential, underscoring opportunities to enhance connectivity and promote collaboration between enterprises of the two countries in mutually complementary sectors.

Vietnamese Trade Counsellor Hoang Duc Nhuan emphasised the considerable potential for bilateral trade cooperation, particularly between Vietnamese businesses and enterprises in Oran Province. On this occasion, representatives of several Vietnamese companies expressed their desire to invest and cooperate with Algerian partners to bring Vietnamese-branded agricultural products into the Algerian market and the wider North African region.

For their part, the Governor and the Director of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Oran welcomed the visit by the Vietnamese Ambassador and business delegation. They affirmed that Oran in particular, and Algeria in general, consistently welcome Vietnamese enterprises to invest and conduct business, offering the highest possible levels of support and incentives. Local leaders noted that many companies from Türkiye, China, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and India have already invested and achieved positive development outcomes in Oran.

Algerian officials also stressed that the country’s legal framework has undergone significant reforms, including the removal of restrictions on foreign ownership ratios, thereby creating more favourable conditions for foreign investors to operate freely. They underscored that there is no discrimination between domestic and foreign investors, and encouraged investment in Oran, home to major industrial zones such as Es-Senia and Hassi Ameur.

The working visit once again reaffirmed the shared desire to strengthen bilateral economic and trade cooperation, while opening up concrete opportunities for business partnerships, thereby contributing to further deepening the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Algeria.
