Vietnam affirms market economy amid US manufacturing overcapacity probe
VOV.VN - The Vietnamese economy operates fully under market principles, with all business activities complying with international regulations, said the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam.
Vietnam is a fully functioning market economy, recognised by many countries, said spokesperson Pham Thu Hang at a press briefing on March 19, in response to reporters’ question regarding the recent US probe into manufacturing overcapacity.
Business activities in Vietnam are always guided by sustainable development principles and fully comply with relevant regulations, including those of the World Trade Organisation, she added.
The US recently launched Section 301 probes into manufacturing overcapacity across 16 trading partners, opening the door to a new wave of tariffs. Targeted economies include China, the European Union, Japan, India, Mexico, Vietnam and Taiwan (China).
According to the spokesperson, economic, trade, and investment relations between Vietnam and the United States have continued to grow positively, bringing benefits to businesses and people in both countries.
Vietnam is committed to furthering close coordination with the United States to clarify relevant policies and promote stable, mutually beneficial economic cooperation, she affirmed.
