Vietjet, Carlyle Group ink US$550 million aircraft sponsorship deal
VOV.VN - Vietjet and major US-based financial group Carlyle signed an aircraft sponsorship agreement worth US$550 million as part of US President Joe Biden's official visit to Vietnam.
Under the terms of the deal, Carlyle Aviation Partners, a member of the Carlyle Group, will provide funding for the 737 Max aircraft series under the order of 200 aircraft between Vietjet and Boeing.
This represents an important aircraft order and one of the largest commercial contracts, thereby making a significant contribution to the trade balance between the nation and the US.
Robert Korn, co-founder and president of Carlyle Aviation Partners, emphasised that Carlyle Aviation Partners is a long-term strategic partner of Vietjet, adding that it has been a great honour for the company to witness the firm’s strong developments for over a decade.
He highlighted the airline’s great efforts to provide people with economical and convenient flight opportunities, which in turn contribute to the overall development of the aviation and tourism industries and promote investment between the nation and the wider world.
The first aircraft of the order is scheduled to be delivered to Thai Vietjet, an airline founded by Vietjet which is currently one of the leading airlines in Thailand.
During President Biden's official visit, Vietjet and Boeing also agreed to hand over the first aircraft to Vietjet under the order of 200 B737 Max aircraft. The US$25 billion order is due to be implemented over the next five years, with the first 12 aircraft being delivered next year.
Carlyle Aviation Partners operates in the field of global aircraft finance and leasing. First established back in 2002 with its headquarter in Miami, Florida, the company currently manages a fleet of 396 aircraft in 59 countries around the world.
