Vietjet Air offers free hot-air balloon trip at biennial festival
No-frills carrier Vietjet Air has announced that passengers flying to the central city of Hue will have the chance to experience a hot-air balloon for free at the upcoming Hue Festival.
The airline’s hot-air balloon is Vietnam’s only representative at an international hot-air balloon demonstration along with participants from the UK, the Netherlands, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines, Vietjet said in a press release on April 25.
As part of the Hue Festival’s schedule, the balloon performance will be organized in Ham Nghi Yard inside the Hue Citadel from May 4 to 5 with two exhibitions: from 5:30 am to 8:00 am and from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm, according to the Hue Festival website.
Vietjet said that passengers only need to bring boarding passes of the airline to board the balloon without any charge.
The Hue Festival, the ninth of its kind, is a biennial event of national significance which aims to enhance cultural exchange between participating countries and promote local tourism.
The Vietjet hot-air balloon, with dimensions of 25 meters high, 18 meters wide and a flight distance of five kilometers, can ascend to a maximum altitude of 150 meters, offering passengers a panoramic view of Hue, the budget carrier said.
Passengers will be able to take photos and meet with Vietjet pilots, according to their press release.
Vietjet also revealed that its hot-air balloon will represent Vietnam in balloon performances internationally, including Taiwan in July, Japan in September and October, Malaysia in March 2017, the Philippines in April 2017, and Thailand in April 2017.
Currently, the airline owns a fleet of 36 aircraft, including A320s and A321s, and operates 250 flights per day.
It has already opened 50 routes in Vietnam and across the region to various destinations, including Thailand, Singapore, the Republic of Korea, Taiwan, China, Myanmar and Malaysia.
Vietjet has carried more than 20 million passengers to date.
