US extends anti-dumping probe into plywood imported from Vietnam

VOV.VN - The US Department of Commerce (DOC) has announced the extension of deadline for the final determination on the anti-dumping and anti-subsidy tax evasion investigation into hardwood plywood imported from Vietnam, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).

In its preliminary determination, the DOC said it will release the final results of its investigation by October 17, 2022.

The DOC initiated an investigation into hardwood plywood imported from Vietnam on June 17, 2020. It will see if Vietnam's plywood manufacturers import materials from China for plywood production to be exported to the US.

If the manufacturers prove they are not evading the trade remedy measures the US is applying to China, they will not be subject to the anti-subsidy tax rates.

The US is imposing anti-dumping and countervailing duties on these Chinese products with an anti-dumping duty of 183.36% and an anti-subsidy tax of 22.98% to 194.90%.

Vietnamese plywood exporters have been working closely with the DOC to clarify that they do not aim to evade the US' trade remedy measures.

Statistics of the US Customs and Border Protection show that the export turnover of plywood using Vietnam’s hardwood materials to the US has increased considerably in recent years, from US$112.3 million in 2018 to US$226.4 million in 2019, US$248. 5 million in 2020 and US$356.7 million in 2021.
