US diplomat optimistic about Vinamilk’s co-operation prospects

VOV.VN - US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Evans Knapper expressed his optimism on April 8 regarding the bright prospects ahead for further co-operation with Vinamilk during his visit to the company’s dairy factory in Can Tho.

During the working session held between the US Embassy’s diplomatic mission and representatives from local dairy giant Vinamilk, the US diplomat highlighted the various developments of the Vietnamese dairy industry and Vinamilk's investment in production technology at the factory in Can Tho and  other facilities across the country in line with relevant international standards.

He spoke highly of the developments made in terms of both size and quality of the Vietnamese dairy industry, as well as Vinamilk’s robust growth in recent times amid the complicated nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has helped ensure a safe and stable domestic market and achieve impressive export results.

He emphazised that apart from incentive policies, businesses' dynamism in trade promotion activities have greatly contributed to increasing the efficiency of economic co-operation between the two nations over recent years.

During the course of the function, Vinamilk leaders informed Ambassador Knapper and his delegation about the operations of Vinamilk’s dairy factory in Can Tho, whilst also providing information on the company’s experience in dealing with COVID-19 pandemic, thereby stabilizing production activities.

Pham Minh Duong, director of Vinamilk Dairy Factory in Can Tho, said last year that despite the adverse nature of the pandemic, the factory has ensured supply chains of raw materials and maintained an output of between 40 million and 50 million products per month as well as producing tens of tonnes of fresh milk per day for Can Tho city and neighbouring provinces

With regard to the international market, Vinamilk is among the top 40 largest dairy companies in the world in terms of revenue, with its products being exported to 57 countries, including major markets such as the US, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and China, earning an export turnover of more than US$2.6 billion.

In the US market, Vinamilk currently owns a Driftwood milk factory in California, while the company also exports condensed milk and creamer products under the brand name Driftwood to the US.

At present, Vinamilk is importing raw milk powder from the US to produce infant and adult milk powder. In addition, the company also imports breeding dairy cows and dairy farming technology equipment from the US. From 2019 to the end of 2021, import turnover from the US reached approximately US$306 million.

The dairy giant currently has a large-scale system of farms and factories, boasting 16 factories and 14 international standard farms both at home and abroad.
