UK energy firms explore offshore wind infrastructure at PTSC Port
PTSC Port in Vung Tau ward, Ho Chi Minh City was among the key stops for the UK energy trade mission to Vietnam, as British energy companies explored opportunities and strategic cooperation in the country’s offshore wind sector.
The delegation, comprising leading British offshore wind enterprises, carried out a five-day programme in HCM City and Hanoi to study the market, connect with potential partners, and promote clean energy cooperation.
This year’s mission focused on offshore wind development, aligning with Vietnam’s ambitious goals of achieving 6–17 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2035 and over 70 GW by 2050. With 15 GW currently in operation and more than 25 years of experience, the UK reaffirmed its commitment to being a trustworthy partner in Vietnam’s energy transition journey.
During the visit, the British firms met with the Energy Working Group of the British Chamber of Commerce Vietnam (BritCham Vietnam), held bilateral sessions with project developers such as Pacifico Energy, PTSC, COP, and VinEnerGo, and conducted a field trip to PTSC’s Centre for Energy Industry and Port Logistics Services in Vung Tau to assess Vietnam’s offshore wind infrastructure potential.
The delegation also attended networking events in HCM City and Hanoi, joined by over 50 representatives from Vietnam’s energy sector, including policymakers, project developers, consultants, and service providers.
At a workshop on offshore wind power policy, British Ambassador Iain Frew commended Vietnam’s strong leadership in energy transition. He noted that the revised Power Development Plan VIII and Resolution No. 70 underline the country’s clear commitment to renewable energy development, improved access to finance, and reforms to attract private and international investment. The UK fully supports and is proud to be a long-term partner of Vietnam on its path toward clean energy, he affirmed.
The mission also contributed to the UK’s broader energy diplomacy efforts, including support for the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) and related policy reform initiatives. Discussions centred on key issues such as project financing, investor selection, and supply chain development.
