Udon Thani Goods Fair boost Vietnam – Thailand economic ties
VOV.VN - The Vietnam–Northeast Thailand Goods Fair opened on August 28 at the VT Namnueng Centre in Udon Thani province, to strengthen bilateral trade and deepen economic ties between Vietnam and Thailand.

The event, part of celebrations marking Vietnam's 80th National Day in Thailand, featured nearly 50 booths from Vietnamese and Thai businesses, showcasing a wide range of high-quality products including coffee, confectionery, footwear, and agricultural goods. The fair aims to promote brands, expand markets, connect enterprises, and foster regional supply chains.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dinh Hoang Linh, Vietnamese Consul General in Khon Kaen, emphasised the significance of the fair after Vietnam and Thailand upgraded their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2025. He highlighted the potential of Thailand’s Northeastern region, home to over 22 million people and around 100,000 overseas Vietnamese, as a vital link between the two countries, particularly through the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC).
Trade between the two countries continues to be a bright spot, with Thailand maintaining its position as Vietnam’s largest trading partner in Southeast Asia. The two countries are targeting bilateral trade turnover of US$25 billion in the near future.
The trade fair not only facilitates commercial exchange but also reflects the strong role of Vietnam’s private sector, especially young entrepreneurs, in international integration, brand building, and global value chain development, he said.
Yuthaphon Somlim, director of the Udon Thani Department of Commerce, stated that the Thai Ministry of Commerce remains fully committed to promoting regional economic and trade development by expanding markets for goods and creating effective distribution channels for businesses.
She shared that Udon Thani currently hosts an industrial park within the Northeast Special Economic Corridor, offering investment incentives, including import tax exemptions or reductions along with reduced income tax rates for investors.
The locality also operates a logistics hub that facilitates storage, management, and distribution which can be viewed as key advantages for expanding trade and investment between Vietnam and Thailand, she added.
As part of the trade fair, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Thai-Vietnamese Business Association and several Vietnamese enterprises to foster deeper collaboration and business development.
