Tra fish exports to Brazil total US$55 million by mid-April
VOV.VN - Tra fish (pangasius) shipments to Brazil between early January and April 15 soared by 67% to US$55 million, making the country Vietnam’s third-largest export market for the product, following China and the US, according to Vietnam Customs.
In the first half of April alone, Vietnamese pangasius exports to Brazil rose by 31% year-on-year to US$7 million.
Data from the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) show that pangasius currently makes up 90% of Brazil’s seafood imports from Vietnam.
During the first quarter, most of the imported volume comprised frozen pangasius fillets (HS code 0304), while dried, other frozen varieties and value-added items were also shipped in small quantities.
Nam Viet JSC led all exporters to Brazil in Q1, contributing 14% of Vietnam’s total pangasius export value to the market.
At the end of April, Brazil officially lifted its temporary ban on tilapia imports from Vietnam. The restriction, imposed by the country’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) in February 2024, aimed to review sanitary inspection procedures amid concerns over the spread of Tilapia Lake Virus (TiLV), a highly contagious fish disease.
