China retains top spot in Vietnamese Tra fish exports
VOV.VN - China and Hong Kong remained the top destinations for Vietnam's pangasius exports in 2024, with shipments to these markets surpassing US$580 million, marking a modest 1.3% increase from 2023.
According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), Vietnam's total pangasius export turnover reached US$2 billion in 2024, contributing 20% to the nation's seafood export earnings, despite facing challenges throughout the year.
In December alone, exports to China exceeded US$52 million, representing a 19% year-on-year rise. The US held the second spot among the top importers, with exports nearing US$28 million in December, up by 40% compared to the same month in 2023.
Markets benefiting from the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) also saw growth, with exports rising by 10% to over US$274 million in 2024. Mexico continued to lead the CPTPP bloc, importing US$76 million in pangasius, a 4% increase from the previous year.
Exports to the European Union soared by 18% in December 2024, reaching nearly US$16 million. The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, and Spain were the top importers in the EU. However, exports to Germany suffered a slight decline of 2%, totaling over US$37 million.
Other markets also saw positive growth, with Brazil up by 15%, Thailand rising by 4%, and Colombia growing by 36%.
VASEP projects that 2025 will be a pivotal year for Vietnam’s seafood sector, driven by the efforts of local farmers and fishermen. The year is expected to mark significant milestones in pangasius export growth.
