Three new names lift Vietnam’s billionaire count to eight on Forbes list

VOV.VN - Vietnam has added three new billionaires after two executives at conglomerate Vingroup and the chairman of VPBank appeared in Forbes’ real-time billionaire rankings, bringing the country’s total to eight.

According to Forbes’ real-time data, the three newcomers are Pham Thu Huong and Pham Thuy Hang, both vice chairwomen of Vingroup, and Ngo Chi Dung, chairman of VPBank.

Pham Thu Huong, whose net worth is estimated at US$2.2 billion, is the wife of Pham Nhat Vuong, chairman and co-founder of Vingroup. Born in 1969, Huong graduated from Kiev State University, Ukraine, with a bachelor’s degree in international law. She directly owns more than 341 million VIC shares, equivalent to around 4.4% of Vingroup’s charter capital.

Another Vingroup executive, Pham Thuy Hang, also made the billionaire list with assets valued at approximately US$1.5 billion. Born in 1974, Hang graduated in Russian language studies from Hanoi University. She holds about 228.3 million VIC shares, representing nearly 3% of the group’s equity.

The third new billionaire is VPBank chairman Ngo Chi Dung, whose net worth is estimated at US$1.1 billion.

Born in 1968, Dung graduated from the Russian State Geological Prospecting University and holds a PhD in Economics from the Russian Academy of Sciences. He currently owns more than 328 million VPB shares, accounting for 4.141% of the charter capital.

Notably, among 8 Vietnamese billionaires recognised by Forbes, Chairman of Vingroup Pham Nhat Vuong is still the richest. However, his wealth has fallen by US$7 billion from the end of last year to US$21.1 billion.

Other Vietnamese billionaires on the list included Vietjet chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Techcombank chairman Ho Hung Anh and Hoa Phat Group chairman Tran Dinh Long.
