First Vietnamese billionaire with assets of over US$9 billion unveiled
VOV.VN - Pham Nhat Vuong, chairman of conglomerate Vingroup (VIC), has become the first Vietnamese billionaire with assets exceeding US$9 billion, according to Forbes in the latest update on May 8.

The Vingroup chairman has now climbed to 325th place on the list of the wealthiest people in the world, up 11 notches compared to May 7.
His wealth also surpassed that of Jay Y. Lee, executive chairman of Samsung Electronics, who has assets of US$8.6 billion and ranked 355th in the Forbes’ global billionaire rankings.
In fact, the surge in his wealth was largely driven by the continuous rise in Vingroup’s shares (coded VIC), which saw a strong rally during the May 8 trading session
Currently, Vuong’s assets far exceed those of the other three Vietnamese billionaires to feature on Forbes' list.
Accordingly, Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, chairwoman of Vietnamese budget airline VietJet Air, has US$2.5 billion and is ranked 1,565th globally.
Tran Dinh Long, chairman of Hoa Phat Group, has a net worth of US$2.2 billion, making him the 1,682nd richest person in the world.
Meanwhile, Ho Hung Anh, chairman of Techcombank, is ranked 1,966th in the world with a real time net worth US$1.8 billion.
