Thailand to host 8th ACMECS in June

Thailand is slated to host the 8th Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Meeting this June, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

Busadee Santipitaks, director-general of the Department of Information and spokeswoman of the Foreign Ministry, has announced that Bangkok will be the host of the 8th ACMECS to be attended by the leaders of Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Thailand. 

The meeting will take place on June 15-16, 2018. 

Conveying the prime minister’s message, Busadee asked Thai people to be good hosts during the period and give visitors a heartfelt welcome. 

Topics to be discussed include infrastructure connectivity, human development, regional development, and economic issues. 

ACMECS is intended to act as a catalyst to build upon existing regional cooperation programs and complement the bilateral framework with a view to transforming the border areas of the five countries into zones of economic growth, social progress and prosperity, and to blend local, national and regional interests for the common benefit, shared prosperity, enhanced solidarity, peace, stability and good neighborliness.
