Thai Group Berli Jucker acquires Metro Vietnam

(VOV) - German retail giant Metro Group has signed a deal to sell its Metro Cash& Carry Vietnam (MCC Vietnam) to Thai Group Berli Jucker (BJC) for US$879 million.

The agreement provides for BJC to purchase a 100% ownership interest in MCC Vietnam, including 19 distribution centres and related real estates.

A Metro representative said that the deal should be finalised in the first half of next year.

“Metro Group and BJC reached the agreement after a process of careful consideration and evaluation. The deal will bring long-term benefits to both sides.” Metro President Olaf Koch said.

MCC Vietnam first appeared in Vietnam in 2002 with 3,600 staff nationwide. Its revenue reached approximately US$692 million in the 2012-2013 fiscal year.

BJC’s main spheres of business include package, consumption, health care, technique, retail and other supply chains. The group’s six representative offices in Southeast Asia earned total reported revenue of US$1.3 billion last year.
