Textile and garment exports fetch over US$4 billion in July
VOV.VN - Vietnam earned US$4.29 billion from exporting textile and garment products in July alone, marking the first month this year in which the sector’s exports have reached over US$4 billion, the highest figure since August, 2022.
The General Statistics Office (GSO) revealed that the country’s apparel export turnover in July enjoyed a 12.4% increase compared to the same period from 2023.
The first seven months of the year witnessed export revenue of the garment and textile sector surge by 5.9% on-year to US$23.9 billion.
Furthermore, fibre and yarn exports during the January to July period rose by 3.5% on-year to US$2.53 billion, while that of fabrics also soared by 18% to US$458 million.
The reviewed period saw the nation spend US$878 million on importing materials for the garment and textile industry, representing an 11.4% increase over the same period from 2023.
The country’s garment and textile exports last year reached US$39.5 billion, an annual drop of 10%. This year the sector has set an export turnover target of US$44 billion , marking a year-on-year rise of 10%.
At a trade promotion conference hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in July, Truong Van Cam, vice chairman of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS), urged local firms to capitalise on all opportunities, make rational forecast, and get updated with the situation in order to fulfill the export target of US$44 billion for this year.
