Supermarkets and traditional markets in HCM City open on 2nd day of Tet

VOV.VN - On January 30, the 2nd day of the Lunar New Year (Tet), some supermarkets in Ho Chi Minh City are open from 8 am to 12 pm or 3 pm, offering abundant fresh food for customers.

At the supermarkets, most customers primarily bought fresh foods, pre-processed or cooked foods, with a small number purchasing dry foods. Household goods and cosmetics stalls had almost no customers, with very few people making purchases.

Notably, the supermarkets had previously stocked up on a large quantity of food. Despite rising costs, businesses maintained stable prices, with some items offering discounts of 10%-30%.

Pham Van Hung, Head of Fresh Food Department at MM Mega Market shared that the supermarket had fully prepared to supply goods to residents in the early days of the new year.

“After reopening, purchasing power has not been high, about 50% of normal days. For fresh products, we offer a full range of fish, shrimp, and other foods, meeting 100% of customers' need,” Hung stated.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the Co.opmart, Co.opXtra, and Lotte Mart systems are open from 8 am to 12 pm. Some MM Mega Market supermarkets are open from 8 am to  3 pm, while the GO! system operates from 10 am to 10 pm , with customers primarily buying fruits and fresh flowers. Other systems, including Tops Market, Emart, will open tomorrow (the 3rd); WinMart, WinMart+, and WiN remain closed for Tet and will reopen on the 4th.

At traditional markets, some stalls have already resumed selling on the first days of the new year, with prices relatively stable, except for some food items and fresh flowers which saw price increases.
