Six-month core inflation rises 4.74%: GSO

VOV.VN - The General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO) announced on May 29 that the first half of 2023 saw the consumer price index (CPI) rise by 3.29% and core inflation grow by 4.74% from the same period last year.

The CPI for June alone inched up by 0.27% month-on-month, mostly due to increases recorded in prices of food and electricity. The figure is up 0.67% compared to December 2022, and up 2% from the same period last year.

Ten groups of goods and services witnessing an increase in price index, include food and catering services (up 0.57%); culture, entertainment and tourism (up 0.34%); household appliances (0.19%); traffic (0.16%); beverage and tobacco (0.16%); garment, hat and footwear (0.11%); education (0.11%); housing and building materials (0.07%); and health care and medical services (0.01%).

Total retail sales of consumer goods and services increased by 10.9% over the same period last year, of which revenue from accommodation and catering services edged up by 18.7% and from tourism by 65 ,9%.

The gold price index in June decreased by 0.64% compared to the previous month, but up 3.3% compared to December 2022 and 0.95% over the same period last year.

The US dollar price index in June increased by 0.14% over the previous month, down 2.23% compared to December 2022, and up 1.14% over the same period last year.
