Seminar seeks to promote Vietnam- Mexico trade links
VOV.VN - The Investment and Trade Promotion Center of Ho Chi Minh City (ITPC) and the Mexican Embassy in Vietnam hosted a seminar on March 23 to seek ways to promote trade ties between Vietnam and Mexico.
The event was attended by approximately 100 enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City operating in the fields of energy, telecommunications, high-tech agriculture, and high value-added industries.
During the function, participants emphasized that joint economic and trading relations have been continuously developed, especially since the enforcement of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) back in 2019.
At present, Mexico currently represent the second largest Vietnamese trading partner in Latin America, while the nation has become Mexico's eighth largest trading partner in Asia.
Cao Thi Phi Van, deputy director of the ITPC, said bilateral trade turnover between the two countries last year reached US$5.421 billion, up 7% compared to 2021, of which export revenue to the market stood at an estimated US$4.532 billion.
Most notably, bilateral turnover between Ho Chi Minh City and Mexico also hit more than US$364 million, of which exports to the Mexican market reached more than US$300 million, up 6% compared to 2022.
However, the participants pointed out that trade co-operation between both sides remains modest, which is far rom matching the potential, adding that businesses must strengthen trade exchanges and connectivity for long-term, sustainable co-operation and mutual development in the future.
