The figure represents a rise of 93 codes compared to the previous month, but is less than half of that in the same period last year.

The VSD also approved information changes for 36 foreign investors and cancelled the codes of six others last month.

There are currently 30,250 securities trading codes issued for foreign investors, which belong to 4,240 institutional and 26,000 individual ones.

In 2018, VDS granted 5,537 securities trading codes to foreign investors, 2,300 higher than 2017.

Last year, foreign investors pumped a net value of 41.7 trillion USD into Vietnam’s securities market, a surge of 61.3 percent.

Vietnam’s stock market is expected to attract more foreign capital when it is upgraded from frontier market status to emerging, according to Bao Viet Securities Company.

Since the beginning of this year, the country’s stock market has witnessed strong inflows of foreign investment.

As of February 15, foreign investors’ net purchases reached nearly 4 trillion VND (173.1 million USD).
