Seafood exports rebound in the first half of February

VOV.VN - After "falling down" in January, seafood exports were able to recover in the first half of February, reaching US$286.94 million, up 42% compared to the same period from 2022, according to the data detailed by the General Department of Customs.

However, cumulatively between the beginning of the year to the end of February 15, the nation’s total seafood export turnover hit US$742 million, down 30% on-year.

This decline occurred amid Vietnamese seafood exports enduring a fall in the fourth quarter of 2022 and continuing to drop in January around the time of the Lunar New Year festival, the country’s biggest holiday of the year.

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), the picture of seafood exports is unlikely to brighten during the first months of the year due to the global economy being anticipated to fall into recession this year.

Elsewhere, seafood exports to China are expected to record positive signs when the market reopens, however, this recovery is forecast to begin from the second quarter of the year.

The Vietnamese seafood industry still has plenty of optimism in markets with growing economies such as Asia and the Middle East.
