Seafood exports rake in about US$9 billion in 2018

Vietnam earned about US$9 billion from exports of aquatic products in 2018, an increase of 8.4% year-on-year, said Acting Director General of Directorate of Fisheries Nguyen Ngoc Oai.

Of the figure, export revenue of tra (pangasius) fish hit US$2.26 billion, up 26.4%, Oai said at a conference on December 24 to review the Directorate’s performance in 2018 and launch tasks in 2019.

According to the directorate, aquatic output is estimated to reach nearly 3.6 million tonnes this year, up 5.96% from the previous year.

In 2019, the sector sets a target of raising aquatic production value by 4.25% compared to 2018. Total aquatic output is expected to hit 7.9 million tonnes, while export revenue rakes in US$10 billion, up 11.1%.
