Russian consumers taste Vietnamese pomelo
VOV.VN - The northern midland province of Phu Tho on January 8 shipped the first batch of its Doan Hung branded pomelo to Russia.
As many as 36,000 pomelos weighing 40 tonnes and meeting VietGAP standards had been collected by Kim Hang Luc Ngan Organic Agriculture Technology JSC for export to the Russian market.
This is an important event, opening a new phase for local farmers in Doan Hung district which is noted for pomelo cultivation to export its pomelos to the Russian market, said Nguyen Thanh Hai, vice chairman of the Phu Tho provincial administration.
The province will continue to promote intensive farming and apply technical advances to improve the quality and value of the fruit to ensure 100% of land under pomelo cultivation meet safe production criteria and receive a code for domestic consumption as well as for export, he said.
Hai expressed hope that Doan Hung pomelo will be exported to other markets besides Russia to popularize the fruit globally.
Currently Doan Hung district has nearly 2,600ha of land under pomelo cultivation, with its total output estimated at 24,000 tonnes.
Doan Hung pomelo has been granted a Geographical Indication Protection Certificate and has been honored three times as “Agricultural Gold Brand”.
