Rapidus encouraged to set up semiconductor projects in Vietnam
VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung encouraged Rapidus, a semiconductor manufacturer of Japan, to initiate cooperation projects in Vietnam, during his working session with the leadership of the firm in Hokkaido on May 28.

Meeting with Tetsuro Higashi, chairman of the Board of Directors at Rapidus, Dung appreciated the leader’s remarks across multiple previous meetings, emphasising Vietnam as a strategic partner for human resource development in the semiconductor industry for Rapidus and Japan in general.
He also spoke highly of Higashi’s development vision and expressed his belief that with the collaboration of eight major Japanese corporations in the industry, Rapidus would certainly reap a great success and achieve its business goals.
According to the Deputy PM, Vietnam considers science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation as top-priority breakthroughs and the main driving forces for economic restructuring and the creation of a new growth model, aiming to become a high-income, developed economy by 2045.
The country has issued a national semiconductor industry development strategy, established a national steering committee for semiconductor development, and is implementing a comprehensive set of measures to build a semiconductor ecosystem. This includes creating an investment support fund, launching a plan to train 50,000 semiconductor engineers, attracting foreign direct investment, and promoting both public-private and private-private partnerships across various stages of the semiconductor value chain.
Dung proposed that Rapidus collaborate with the Vietnamese government and domestic partners to train engineers, enabling Vietnamese engineers to study and work at its factories and those of its partners. He suggested that the firm establish a human resource training centre in Vietnam, including a semiconductor human resource development programme that would offer training, scholarships for students and researchers, and internship opportunities for Vietnamese students.
He also encouraged Rapidus to expand its R&D and business operations in Vietnam, to leverage the country’s incentive policies for the semiconductor industry and contribute to the growth of Vietnam’s high-tech ecosystem.
Higashi, for his part, affirmed Rapidus’ readiness to participate in human resource training, while sharing that the firm plans to work through Vietnam-Japan University to study and develop mechanisms to implement the Deputy PM’s proposals.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung is touring Japanese localities to seek cooperation opportunities, as part of his working visit for the 30th Nikkei Forum Future of Asia.
