Portal launched to help firms gain more insights into FTAs

VOV.VN - A portal of Free Trade Agreements (FTAP) made its debut in Hanoi on December 23 in an effort to help local businesses and people gain greater insights into the benefits brought about by the FTAs that Vietnam has signed with its partners.

The portal is to provide the Vietnamese business community and its partners with a smart online tool so firms can get more knowledge about FTAs, particularly new-generation FTAs, such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).

The FTAP enables visitors to learn more about tax commitments, the rules of origin, services and investment, market information, and regulations relating to import and export activities.

Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh highlighted the great efforts put in by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), along with support offered by the Australian Government and the World Bank in building the portal. He asked the MoIT to improve the FTAP's functions, making it easier for the business community to carry out import and export activities.

Meanwhile, MoIT Minister Tran Tuan Anh stressed the establishment of the FTAP affirms the Government’s determination to make the benefits of FTAs, especially new-generation FTAs, more accessible to businesses and citizens.

According to the Minister, the FTAP also serves to demonstrate effective co-ordination between the Government, the World Bank, and the Australian Government in the country’s economic integration process.

The MoIT reported Vietnam has signed 14 bilateral and regional FTAs, of which 13 have been implemented. It has concluded negotiations of an additional FTA and are entering into negotiations of a further two others with partners.

Information and data regarding the portal can be found at http://fta.moit.gov.vn and will be displayed in both Vietnamese and English.
