PM visits Cai Mep int’l port in Ba Ria - Vung Tau

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on July 21 paid an inspection visit to the Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT) in Tan Thanh district of the southern province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau.

The government leader hailed the important role of seaports and transport infrastructure to the economy while expressing his hope that the facility will contribute more to the socio-economic development of the region and the country.

He said the Government and local authorities will consider the CMIT’s proposals on investment in traffic development connecting the CMIT to key economic areas.

He asked the CMIT to work hand in hand with the Ministry of Transport and local authorities to simplify administrative procedures, creating optimal conditions for goods transport at the port.

Cai Mep is one of the fastest growing deep-water ports of the world and is able to accommodate large size ships with capacity up to 200,000 tonnes.

In the first half of 2017, the CMIT posted a growth of 10 percent compared to the same period last year, earning US$12 million in revenue.

Covering an area of 48ha and with 600m-long wharves, the port has a capacity of more than 1.1 million TEU.

On the 70th War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27), the Prime Minister visited the Long Dat nursing centre for war invalids and revolutionary contributors in the southern province.

He expressed his gratitude to war invalids who devoted their life to the fight for national liberation and international missions.

“The Party and the State are consistently implementing the policy of caring for national contributors, regarding it as a basic and important task of the country’s social welfare system. Despite difficulties in national context, the Party and State have improved policies to consider the caring of invalids and martyrs family members an important task," he said.

Late the same day, the Prime Minister worked with Ba Ria Vung Tau leaders on socio-economic development tasks. He called on the province to develop supportive industry and high-tech agriculture, attract strong investors, and pay attention to socio-economic plans of Con Dao island district.
