PM urges aggressive trade promotion to boost exports, local sales

VOV.VN - The Prime Minister has issued a Directive outlining key tasks and solutions to boost trade promotion activities both domestically and internationally in 2025.

Under the Directive dated June 18, ministries, agencies, and local authorities are tasked with ramping up trade promotion efforts, focusing on expanding exports to traditional markets and those with Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) or Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements (CEPAs) with Vietnam; diversifying export destinations to reduce dependence on high-risk markets; and promoting selective and efficient imports of raw materials, components, and technologies needed for domestic production and value-added exports.

Domestic trade promotion will be strengthened through national promotional campaigns, supply-demand linkage programmes, and the ongoing initiative “Vietnamese People Prioritise Using Vietnamese Goods.” Emphasis will be placed on using digital platforms for product distribution, as well as providing businesses with market data and legal consulting services.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) will take the lead in implementing national-level trade promotion programmes. It will develop a National Trade Promotion Programme for 2025–2030; launch large-scale, industry-specific campaigns in priority markets such as the EU, US, China, Japan, Republic of Korea, ASEAN, India, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America; and enhance exports to emerging and niche markets such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE, Brazil, and North Africa.

The MoIT will promote Vietnam’s strengths in high-tech sectors, including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, automation, machinery, and renewable energy; and work through overseas trade offices and Vietnam Product Promotion Centres to support businesses with information, connections, and brand-building.

Efforts will also be made to promote products under the Vietnam National Brand, assist companies in developing long-term branding strategies, and protect intellectual property rights internationally.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in coordination with MoIT, will restructure agricultural production to align with export demands. Enterprises, cooperatives, and farmers will be guided to adopt sustainable farming standards like VietGAP and GlobalGAP, improve product traceability, and meet international quality benchmarks.

Agricultural promotion will be expanded in markets such as the Middle East, Africa, South Asia, Latin America, and ASEAN, along with key FTA partner countries including those under the CPTPP and EVFTA agreements. Green and sustainable standards will be emphasised to meet high-end market demands and reduce risks from environmental or carbon-related trade barriers.

To stimulate domestic consumption, the MoIT will promote trade through regional and industry linkages; organise national and regional trade fairs; deploy mobile trade events like “Vietnamese Goods Fairs” and “Bringing Vietnamese Goods to Rural and Remote Areas”; and conduct nationwide promotional campaigns during off-peak months and year-end shopping seasons, using creative formats meeting with emerging consumer trends.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will monitor global economic shifts, identify new trade and investment opportunities, and help Vietnam adapt its trade policies accordingly. It will also explore the establishment of new trade offices in strategic markets.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will integrate trade promotion into national cultural and tourism events, helping local products, especially OCOP goods and handicrafts, build identity-based export brands.

The State Bank of Vietnam will simplify credit access to ease financing for individuals and businesses, while the Ministry of Finance will allocate financial resources to support trade promotion and export branding activities.

Local administrations are encouraged to work closely with ministries and industry associations to carry out trade promotion, attract investment, and enhance production capacity. Industry associations are expected to propose and implement sector-specific trade promotion strategies and contribute to national programmes.

Efforts should be made to advance digital transformation in trade promotion through e-commerce, digital marketing, logistics technology, and data analytics tools, helping businesses connect with global customers more effectively.
