PM urged to develop fisheries trade unions
(VOV) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has asked the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) to work hand in hand with the Government and local authorities to develop fisheries trade unions, protecting the legitimate rights of labourers and help businesses fulfill economic growth targets.
Dung was speaking at the opening session of the fourth conference of the Executive Board of the VGCL in Hanoi on June 6.
He underlined the need to ensure sustainable development of the marine economy by developing fisheries trade union and adopting incentive policies to support fishermen.
The PM urged both the Government and VGCL to cooperate on removing difficulties for businesses, especially for the 12,000 which have resumed operations in the first five months of the year and those which have been affected by the recent protest against. He also asked the VGCL to continue launching emulation movements to accelerate the completion of major projects..
Regarding China’s positioning of drilling rig Haiyang Shiyou-981 in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone, he reaffirmed Vietnam’s consistent stance on its struggle for sovereignty protection and resistance to let the incident affect economic growth.
He called for closer co-ordination between the Government and the VGCL in taking care of workers’ living conditions, speeding up administrative reforms, and improving a socialist-oriented market economy mechanism.
Dung highlighted that the Government and VGCL should enhance cooperation in promoting the international economic integration process to bring benefits to both businesses and laborers.
The PM also made some recommendations related to credit and insurance policies for fishermen.
