Philippines initiates safeguard investigation on Vietnamese cement
VOV.VN - The Philippines Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) initiated a safeguard investigation of cement imported into the country on September 10, according to the Vietnamese Trade Office in the Philippines.
According to the Philippines investigation agency, in the 2013-2017 period, and particularly 2014-2017, there was a remarkable increase in the total amount of cement imported into the country, rising by 70% in 2014, by 4,390% in 2015, by 549% in 2016 and by 72% in 2017.
The DTI has posited that Vietnam was the largest exporter of cement to the Philippines in the 2014-2017 period. The huge rise in cement imports from Vietnam was the main cause for damage to the domestic industry as seen through the decline in market share, turnover, profits and prices.
Any of the affected domestic or foreign import and export businesses and organizations have the right to express their opinions about the case. In addition, the DTI will ask Vietnamese export businesses (certified by the investigation agency) to respond to a questionnaire related to the case.
