Pangasius exports exceed US$2 billion in 11 months

VOV.VN - Vietnam’s pangasius exports surpassed US$2 billion in the first 11 months of the year, marking an increase of 9% year on year, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

In November alone, export turnover edged up 9% to US$195 million, reflecting a steady recovery for the industry.

China remained the largest consumer, with shipments in November totaling nearly US$59 million, up 17%. Meanwhile, exports to the United States fell 23% to US$20 million due to a 20% reciprocal tariff, and sales to the European Union declined 25% to US$12 million, mainly from the Netherlands and Germany.

Within the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) bloc, exports to the UK decreased slightly 4% to US$5 million. Other markets showed positive trends, with Mexico up 50%, Brazil up 13%, and Japan and Malaysia both increasing by 2%.

VASEP statistics also show 11-month pangasius fillet exports brought in more than US$1.6 billion, up 11%, accounting for the largest share of total pangasius exports, while processed products rose 13% to US$48 million.

Pangasius exports to China continued to show positive growth, but sharp declines in the US and EU markets have pushed China’s share up to 30% of total pangasius exports. Simultaneously, Brazil and several CPTPP markets posted strong gains with ample room for further development.

VASEP warns that the 20% reciprocal tariff in the US is expected to continue weighing on exports next year, undermining the competitiveness of Vietnamese pangasius in this market. It recommends that exporters proactively diversify markets, broaden product offerings, and place greater emphasis on value-added and deeply processed products.

Achieving sustainable and international certifications is also increasingly important to enhance the Vietnam pangasius brand and strengthen competitiveness amid rising price pressure.
