Over 163,000 CBU autos imported this year

VOV.VN - Vietnam has imported 163,333 completely built unit (CBU) cars valued at US$3.62 billion as of December 15, according to data compiled by the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

The number of imported CBUs surpasses the 2021 figure standing at nearly 160,000 units.

The first 15 days of December saw the country spend approximately US$219.33 million on importing 11,769 CBUs. Of the figure, 10,091 vehicles were nine-seater cars to make up the main imported products of the Vietnamese auto market.

The General Department of Vietnam Customs reports, since the beginning of this year, Vietnam raked in more than US$5.6 billion from exporting auto accessories and vehicles. The number of these products is therefore expected to increase sharply ahead in 2023 amid the demand for locally assembled automobiles continuing to rise.

The department also notes Indonesia has overtaken Thailand to become the largest auto supplier to the Vietnamese market as of November, delivering 63,987 units to local customers, worth US$934.4 million, followed by Thailand and China.

Most notably, the country imported 141,328 vehicles from these three markets, accounting for 93.23% of the total number of imported CBUs.
