Ornamental red mandarin trees in high demand for Tet
VOV.VN -Farmers in Van Giang Village have been busy in recent days as ornamental red mandarin trees planted in pots are in high demand in the build-up to Tet.
Local farmers in Van Giang village, which is located 25 km away from Hanoi, have entered the busiest time of the year with Tet approaching. |
They have been growing a huge number of red mandarin trees in pots to sell to expectant customers. Ornamental trees produce one of the most popular fruits with a beautiful colour and special flavour. |
Vu Duc Manh, a mandarin orchard owner, says the price for a single pot ranges between VND2 million and VND6 million. |
He added that the techniques to grow the trees in pots is complicated. |
It takes over a year to grow a pot of red mandarin. |
Manh has to pay VND300,000 to VND400,000 each day to hire gardeners to care for the fruit trees. |
Each pot produces 30 to 35 tonnes of red mandarin fruits, he added. |
The owner also noted how most of the red mandarin pots in his orchard have been purchased in advance by traders and companies. |
The trees produce large and delicious fruits. |
He earns a profit of between VND300-400 million per year in favourable weather conditions. However, this figure could be reduced to only VND100 million to VND200 million in poor weather. |
