Ninh Thuan pomelo gets green light to enter US market
VOV.VN - The pomelo growing area in Phuoc Binh commune of Bac Ai district, Ninh Thuan province, has been granted a planting area code by the United States Department of Agriculture, enabling it to export the fruit to the US market in the future.
Dang Kim Cuong, director of the Ninh Thuan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, revealed that pomelo is the province’s first agricultural product to be granted a growing area code by the US’ Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). The code numbered PB.32.02.01.001 is expected to come into effect from June 22.
At present, the provincial Plant Protection Department has requested that the local administration notify farmers of the APHIS’s approval and ask them to follow safe and organic cultivation standards as well as to abide by stringent regulations set by US importers.
The granting of the growing area code to Phuoc Binh pomelo for the official export to the US is expected to open up bright prospects ahead for the province’s other typical agricultural products to penetrate the global market.
