Nearly 10,000 litres of E10 biofuel sold on launch day in Hanoi, Hai Phong
VOV.VN - The Vietnam Oil Corporation (PVOIL) began a pilot retail programme for E10 RON95 biofuel at six petrol stations in Hanoi and Hai Phong on August 1, recording nearly 10,000 litres sold on the first day.

Four stations in Hanoi sold a total of 6,279 litres, and two in Hai Phong sold approximately 3,400 litres, said a PVOIL representative.
E10 RON95 was capped at VND19,600 per litre, VND199 higher than E5 RON92 and VND240 lower than regular RON95.
According to reports, many drivers in Hanoi were willing to try E10, while others remained cautious, preferring to wait for user feedback before switching. To assist consumers, stations displayed informative signage about E10, designated separate fuel pumps for this product, and had staff on hand to provide advice about its environmental benefits.
PVOIL stated that it has thoroughly prepared infrastructure, technical processes, and legal requirements to carry out the pilot programme.
Meanwhile, the Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex) also piloted the sale of E10 biofuel at 36 petrol stations in Ho Chi Minh City on August 1 to assess market demand and the feasibility of broader implementation.
Alongside the Hanoi and Hai Phong launch, E10 blending is also underway in Da Nang and Quang Ngai, with retail expansion to the central region expected later in August.
After the pilot phase, Petrolimex and PVOIL will evaluate results, upgrade infrastructure, and expand its distribution network in preparation for nationwide E10 RON95 deployment starting January 1, 2026.
E10 is a biofuel consisting of 90% regular unleaded gasoline and 10% ethanol, a renewable alcohol made from sources like cassava, sugarcane, and corn. The use of E10 is expected to reduce emissions, protect the environment, and gradually replace fossil fuels.
Vietnam’s major refineries, Dung Quat and Nghi Son, with a combined capacity of over 16.5 million tonnes of crude oil per year, can meet around 70% of domestic fuel demand, ensuring a stable supply for biofuel production. With over 214 fuel depots nationwide, the Ministry of Industry and Trade believes Vietnam is fully capable of storing and distributing petrol, ethanol, and E10.
