Mozambique considers Vietnam top strategic partner in agricultural cooperation
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique Tran Thi Thu Thin held a working session with Mozambican Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries Roberto Mito Albino in Maputo on October 26 to push forward key cooperation programs between the two countries.
At the working session, Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin conveyed greetings from Vietnamese Minister of Agriculture and Environment Trinh Viet Hung to Minister Roberto Mito Albino, and expressed sincere thanks to Mozambican functional agencies for their close coordination over the past time.
The ambassador affirmed that traditional friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Mozambique have grown strongly across a variety of fields, from trade, investment, and telecommunications to education, health care, and people-to-people exchanges, built on solid political trust and mutual benefit.
Emphasizing that agricultural cooperation is a key pillar of bilateral relations, given the similarities in natural conditions, Ambassador Thin noted that Vietnam has sent technical experts to help Mozambique with farming techniques and experience sharing. Through a bilateral university education cooperation agreement, the country has also provided scholarships and trained high-quality human resources for Mozambique in agriculture, fisheries, and processing industries.
A highlight of bilateral agricultural cooperation was the 2013-2017 project on rice, soybean, and crop production in central provinces of Mozambique. The project brought practical results, helping local farmers adopt advanced techniques and high-yield crop varieties, thereby boosting productivity of key crops in the region.
Building on this success, Ambassador Thin announced that relevant agencies of both countries are completing procedures to soon launch Phase 2 of the project to step up production and ensure food security in Mozambique.
For his part, Minister Roberto Mito Albino praised the practical cooperation outcomes between the two nations. He affirmed that Mozambique always regards Vietnam as a role model in socio-economic development and a top strategic partner in agricultural technical cooperation to achieve food security and sustainable development goals.
Minister Albino welcomed positive signals regarding Phase 2 of the agricultural project, emphasizing that it aligns with key goals in Mozambique's new Strategic Plan for Agricultural Development (PEDSA) and the National Agricultural Investment Plan (PNISA). He requested both sides to continue working closely to carry out the project at an early date.
On this occasion, Minister Albino expressed his desire to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time and send delegations of officials and experts to learn from practical experience. He urged Vietnam to continue sharing expertise in its strong areas, including wet rice cultivation, aquaculture, and processing of agricultural products, particularly cashews.
