MoU inked on HCM City-Can Tho Railway
The Southern Institute for Science and Technology (SIST) and the US-headquartered EDES Group on Tuesday (Nov 12) morning signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to co-operate with each other in building the HCM City - Can Tho Railway Project.
The 134km long railway line will allow passenger trains to travel at over 200km per hour and cargo trains at under 200 km per hour.
It will start at Tan Kien Station in HCM City's Binh Chanh District and run through the provinces of Long An, Tien Giang and Vinh Long before reaching Cai Rang Station in Can Tho City.
There will be 10 stations on the way. Environmentally friendly industries and hi-tech agriculture projects will be developed in satellite cities built around these stations.
This project will use the BOT (Built - Operate - Transfer) form of investment, according to the MoU.
The joint venture will carry out a feasibility study and submit it to the Ministry of Transport and the Central Government.
According to SIST, the HCM City - Can Tho Railway will deliver great economic and other benefits to the Mekong Delta.
