Ministry of Commerce to Push Thailand to Become a Leader in Organic Agriculture

The ministry wants Thailand to become a regional leader in ASEAN in farming, consuming, and trading, along with servicing sustainable organic agriculture.

The Commerce Minister, Mrs. Apiradi Tantraporn, has visited a Sufficiency Economy learning center in U-thong, SuphanBuri, to observe policy implementation for organic agriculture. She said that agriculturists at the learning center have successfully developed an organic produce-processing factory and earned sustainable incomes.

For the plan to increase organic agriculture products, the Ministry of Commerce has cooperated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to encourage agriculturists to grow more organic farming products by giving advice on cultivation and providing more marketing channels.

Presently, the world organic market is growing at a rate of 20% per year, so it provides an opportunity for Thai organic products because ofthe continuous high demand.
