Lotte Mart brings Korean melons to Vietnamese consumers

VOV.VN - Lotte Mart, a leading retailer of the Republic of Korea, has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Seongju county of Gyeongsangbuk-do province, to promote the export of Korean melons to the Vietnamese market.

The signing of the MoU was a result of 17 years of strict quarantine negotiations, and Korean melons have officially been exported to Vietnam through official channels. The typical Korean fruit has been available at Lotte Mart Vietnam supermarkets since the end of March 2025.

As of now, Lotte Mart has sold 490 boxes of Korean melons, equivalent to 725 kilograms, accounting for 24% of the total sales of the melon product group.

“Through the LOTTE Mart Vietnam supermarket system, we have the opportunity to widely introduce Korean melons, a specialty of Seongju County, to the Vietnamese market. I hope there will be more opportunities in the future to export other agricultural products from Seongju to consumers here,” said Lee Byung-hwan, governor of Seongju county at the signing ceremony.

Lee Yong Ho, director of merchandise at Lotte Mart Vietnam, shared that Vietnamese consumers are increasingly favouring melons over watermelons due to their diverse varieties, higher sweetness, and crisp texture, which provide a better taste experience.

“With this cooperation document with Seongju county, we are committed to working more closely to bring Korean melons in particular, and Seongju’s agricultural products in general, to Vietnamese consumers at reasonable prices,” said Lee.

Last year, Vietnam and the Republic of Korea reached an agreement on quarantine permits for Korean melons and Vietnamese pomelos. This year, the two countries continue to cooperate with the goal of achieving quarantine agreements for Korean kiwis and tangerines, as well as Vietnamese lychees and passion fruits.
